Change Management in Human Resource Management (HRM)

Bank of Ceylon as an Example of Change Management in Human Resource Management (HRM) Well, to the human resource management, the term ‘change management’ encompasses the techniques, tools and processes that are used during the time of managing the people in relation to the change process. This involves educating, aiding and reassuring the employees as they become acquainted with the new processes, practices or structures within the organization. For the case of change management of human resources in the Bank of Ceylon in particular, a state bank of Sri Lanka it is aimed at change internalization due to changes in the economy, the technology and the regulations (whatfix, 2024).

Here’s how change management can be applied in HRM within the Bank of Ceylon, with examples:

 1. Employee Training and Digital Transformation The digital transformation is disruptive on the sector of banking, and therefore, it is important for banks like the Bank of Ceylon to adopt new digital tools and platforms. Let me use this example, the bank may offer a new mobile phone banking application, introduce ATMs with the moment functionalities or introduce new core banking systems. (Ceylon, 2022).

Example:

Employees are expected to be trained about the new online banking tool of the Bank of Ceylon, so that they can support, debug it and provide advice to consumers about it. I think it is imperative to understand this difficult transformation and the importance of effective change management in relation to human resource management.

2. Organizational Changes and Restructuring any large-scale organization may face restricting due to changes in corporate policy, legal requirement or market needs. These can be in the form of mergers with other banks or financial institutions, departmental adjustments, or new management levels.

 Example:

To enhance efficiency, the bank decides to centralize certain administrative functions, for example, HR services.

Change management process

• Stakeholder Involvement: HRM should start by engaging the main stakeholders involved in the process, namely department heads, employees, and unions, to explain the motive behind the restructuring and how it would affect their respective parties.

• Communication: Open and frank discussions about the new responsibilities and structure need to be addressed with all employees to help eliminate concerns and stop rumors.

• Job Redesign: It assists HR in helping explain the functions of the employees and their tasks. For instance, in central administration, those workers who were in formerly decentralized units would have to learn new ways of doing things.

3. Getting Used to Regulation Changes As a state-owned enterprise, Bank of Ceylon is under strict requirements. Any shift in government policy, whether it be tax limits, anti-money laundering laws, or monetary policy, or any shift in financial regulation, can have an impact on the practice of employees or how HR functions within the bank.

Example:

New Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations lead the bank to change its internal policies and proceduresthereby affecting employee compliance training.

Change management process

Compliance Training: HR facilitates current training on updated regulations. For instance, a training module is established to help frontline personnel comprehend their commitments involving the new AML regulations.

• Change Communication: HR collaborates with the legal and compliance departments in communicating the details of the changes and how it would affect daily tasks and job responsibilities.

Conclusion

Other change management in HRM at the Bank of Ceylon involve developing a culture of flexibility and continuous learning, along with managing the implementation of new organizational structures, policies, and technology. Clear communication, employee involvement, and the availability of needed resources and training to allow staff to adopt new ways of working are all elements of successful change management.
